Hi! I’m Kim, a kid-lit illustrator and author from deep in the heart of Texas.
An avid book reader, my love for writing began around the age of eleven, when I proudly wrote, typed, and stapled my first novel. (Fun fact: I still have it!) Now, I find storytelling more fun than ever! With my words and art, I set out to create stories and characters with big heart and imagination. And even better if I can take the reader on an adventure while warming their heart.
As an illustrator, I create with mixed media. Paints, markers, collage… wherever my imagination leads me. I mostly enjoy working digitally. Kid me would have thought drawing with a digital pencil was the coolest thing ever. Grown-up me seems to think so too! Mostly because I often change my mind about the color palette. And in one quick second, green can become purple or one of a million different shades of red. All that drawing and erasing and coloring makes me feel like a kid again. I also love revising my books and making a story really shine!
These are some of my favorite things that help fuel my creative process: coffee with whip cream (sometimes tea); chocolate (or anything sweet); fuzzy blankets (& socks); and thinking like a kid (hey, there’s one inside of all of us!).
I’m a wife, mom, baker, late-nighter, sweets-eater, rose-grower, and bird-lover. When I’m not drawing, writing, revising, or dreaming up my next picture book, chapter book, or middle grade novel- I’m likely catching the next good show on T.V. with my hilarious husband and our fluffy, & sweetly royal sidekick.
I was born with an actual genetic sweet tooth. (Only 38% of the population has one!)
BBQ is my all-time favorite food, with a ridiculous amount of sauce. (Yup, Texan!)
I’m a hockey skater and hockey fan.
I can only whistle by sucking in.
I’m a former substitute teacher.
Seeing a cardinal makes me especially happy.
I’m a night owl.
I think eating cake is always a good idea.
I’ve written 100+ stories!
